As her senses adjusted to her loss of sight, her hearing became acute detecting a faint sound rippling just beneath the waves—a melodic chant, a tantalizing hum, a lulling whisper. Kai’s eyes flew open surprised by the intimacy of the murmurs.

Sebastian watched her his green eyes full of curiosity.

She understood now why it was called The Whispering Ice Sea. The water had its own energy, a specific essence that flowed through it. She could feel its lure.

“Come.”

Her gaze wandered once more across the sea’s rough surface before following Sebastian.

For all its bitter cold and snowy landscapes, Viccinius was breathtaking. Sheer white clouds floated aimlessly around a large moon that hovered majestically in the pure blue sky. Spears of light protruded from the moon’s center, sent a shimmering glow across the landscape. The far end of the sea was surrounded by a tall ice wall, hundreds of feet high. Multiple waterfalls thundered down its side, spraying shards of ice outward as it erupted into a foaming froth in the sea below.

Shivering, she pulled up the collar of her coat in a feeble attempt to gain additional protection from the frigid wind.

They made their way carefully down a sloping path, trekking across the ice shelf surrounding the water. The walk was treacherous as splashing water and newly fallen snow combined to create a slick sheet of ice.
